The massive earthquake at 7:58 a.m. on April 3, 2024, brought significant devastation to East Taiwan. Most of our friends in the boardgame industry are safe, but we received unbelievably bad news from our long-time manufacturing partner InkPlay --- Their factory and warehouse collapsed during the earthquake...
This news has brought another seismic impact to Taiwan's board game industry. Over the past seven years, InkPlay has handled the production of over 2,500 original Taiwanese games, providing a valuable service to board game publishers, especially during the early days when board game publishing was not as widespread. InkPlay's founder, Allen Lee, actively engaged with designers on each project, filling gaps in printing techniques and equipment needed for board game production. They even developed a comprehensive one-stop production service, which was a boon for board game publishers.
The collapse hasn't shattered InkPlay's confidence. Over the past two weeks, besides seeking assistance from family, friends, and government agencies, they've actively salvaged goods and equipment from the factory while ensuring safety. Despite these efforts, InkPlay still lacks the funds needed for reconstruction.
With the assistance of the Zeczec team, they've launched a crowdfunding campaign, hoping to raise awareness of the earthquake's impact on the board game community and garner support from various parties. Whether you're a board game enthusiast, or simply willing to help earthquake-affected businesses, your contribution, no matter how small, will greatly aid InkPlay and the local board game manufacturing industry!
We will also work harder with our designer partners to publish more games and invite foreign publishers to Taiwan for exhibitions and production orders, bringing more orders to the rebuilt InkPlay and filling up their new production lines!
